Subtractive Manufacturing (Laser Engraving & Cutting)

Subtractive manufacturing is the process of removing material to create something new from an existing thing. With our xTool D1 Pro (40W diode laser), we can engrave and cut a variety of materials to produce custom designs, signage, gifts, and branded products.

We also offer metal marking using marking spray for engraving on shiny metals (great for blades, tools, knives, and other metal items).

What We Can Do

  • Engraving: logos, text, graphics, patterns
  • Cutting: shapes, cutouts, layered designs (material-dependent)
  • Batch work: small runs for brands, teams, ministries, events
  • Metal marking: with marking spray for durable marks on many metals

What We Need From You

  • Preferred file types: SVG, AI, PDF (vector) for clean results
  • High-res PNG/JPG works for some engraving, but vector is best
  • Material type + dimensions
  • Quantity + deadline
  • If marking metal: confirm the item/material (and whether it’s coated/painted)

Pricing (Guideline)

Laser pricing usually breaks into setup + machine time + materials:

  • Setup / design fee: $10–$35 (simple) or $40–$75/hr (custom design)
  • Laser runtime: commonly billed per minute (example: $1.00–$2.00/min)
  • Materials (if provided by us): added at cost + handling

Example: Small engraving jobs often land around $20–$60, while larger signage or detailed multi-step projects can be $75–$300+.

Metal Marking Pricing (Guideline)

Because marking spray and prep time are involved:

  • Add prep fee: $10–$25
  • Laser time billed normally
  • Marking spray cost included or line-item depending on job size

Notes / Limitations

  • Some materials are not safe to laser (ex: PVC/vinyl). We’ll tell you what’s safe.
  • Cutting thickness depends on the exact material type.
